ChipMOS Expands Capacity with Additional Agilent 93000 SOC Test Systems

6/19/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that ChipMOS Technologies (Bermuda) Ltd. (Nasdaq: IMOS), one of the leading providers of comprehensive semiconductor testing and packaging solutions, has purchased additional Agilent 93000 SOC (system-on-a-chip) Series test systems for expanded capacity to meet the demands of the challenging digital consumer device testing industry.

ChipMOS relies exclusively on the Agilent 93000 SOC series for testing a wide range of advanced semiconductor chips for consumer devices, including liquid-crystal display controllers, optical disk drive devices, high-speed ADC/DAC chips, PLL chips, DIX chips and low-voltage differential signaling transceivers. Increasing the number of Agilent 93000 SOC testers enables ChipMOS to capitalize on outsourcing business opportunities from Japanese independent device manufacturers and Taiwanese design houses.

"The proven success with our existing systems validates our decision to enlarge our Agilent 93000 SOC Series resources," said K.J. Jan, vice president of the HsinChu Production Group at ChipMOS. "Along with the platform's flexibility, impressive performance, and user-friendly interface, the technical expertise from Agilent's professional support team enables us to provide better test program development and production test services for both our local and worldwide customers."

ChipMOS currently is operating several dozen Agilent semiconductor testers and realizing an exceptional loading rate. The Agilent 93000 flexible test platform's upgradeable architecture ensures ChipMOS can fully leverage its investment, providing optimal loading and utilization to test a wide variety of devices for years to come. Moreover, the increasing number of design wins for Agilent's SOC test platform is driving strong demand for ChipMOS testing services, as well as helping ChipMOS to shorten time to volume because of the strong correlation the platform offers between characterization and production testing.

ChipMOS provides a full range of turn-key services from "gold bumping," with its COF (Chip On Film) technology with finer inner lead pitch and higher lead count, to final test.

"We value our long-standing relationship with ChipMOS and are committed to surpassing their expectations," said Chung-Yi Ting, general manager of Agilent's Semiconductor Test Equipment Group in Taiwan. "Agilent is dedicated to providing versatile, low-cost test solutions for the semiconductor industry. ChipMOS's choice of the Agilent 93000 SOC Series underscores the platform's leading performance in the digital consumer test arena."
