Agilent's Automated X-ray Tests Increase PCB Quality for Procket

6/18/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that Procket Networks has selected the Agilent 5DX Series 5000XL automated X-ray test system to test a new series of high-performance printed circuit boards (PCBs). Procket plans to use the 5000XL's superior fault coverage and high-quality inspection capabilities to ensure its large PCBs (up to 24 inches by 40 inches) are ready for the rigorous demands of hardware used in next-generation enterprise computing and telecommunications networks.

"Larger, more complex boards are being employed in today's data communications center to enable greater system speed and performance. This increased complexity requires precision inspection solutions that can identify the smallest defects to ensure high network uptime for our customers," said Rick Wilmer, vice president, operations, Procket. "The Agilent 5000XL X-ray test system is a crucial tool and we recognize it is an essential investment in helping Procket field products that help our customers achieve maximum value and reliability from their IP networks."

The 5000XL is the most effective solution for defect containment at post-reflow, featuring more than 90 percent fault coverage. The system excels at identifying defects in press-fit connectors, which are now widely used in PCBs designed for communications applications. The 5000XL also allows customers to test larger, thicker and heavier boards with taller components, find defects in solder joints, and achieve superior fault coverage that results in higher quality, lower warranty repair costs, and lower scrap costs.

"Procket demands the highest level of PCB test accuracy, and Agilent's new X-ray inspection solution delivers on this difficult technical test challenge," said David Kent, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Loveland Imaging Operations. "Agilent's leading test solutions, backed by our team's service and support, enable Procket to further enhance their reputation for quality in communications hardware."
