Sun Empowers SunGard's IMpower Web-based Portfolio Management Solution

6/17/2003 - SunGard Investment Management Systems, an operating group of SunGard (NYSE:SDS), announced that it has selected Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) as the implementation platform for IMpower, SunGard's new global, real-time, browser-based portfolio management solution.

IMpower builds on SunGard's proven investment management systems, Decalog, for pre- and post-trade compliance; INVEST ONE, for investment accounting; and XAMIN, for performance measurement and attribution. Migrating elements of these fully integrated components to the Java(TM) 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE(TM)) compliant Sun platform, allows SunGard Investment Management Systems to deploy a comprehensive end-to-end solution on a single, cost-effective platform. The agreement includes use of Sun(TM) Mainframe Transaction Processing software to migrate selected business critical applications to the Sun Solaris Operating System (OS).

“Sun and SunGard continue to strengthen our alliance for our mutual customers' benefit. The industry is looking for a cost-effective straight-through processing solution, and IMpower is it,” said Stuart Wells, senior vice president, Sun Microsystems Market Development Organization. “We see the functionally rich IMpower platform processing with the reliability, scalability and security of the Solaris OS as a powerful integrated solution for asset managers.”

“We are very pleased with the success of our new IMpower integrated solution. Clients and prospects can rest assured that they are choosing a tightly coupled infrastructure from industry leaders like Sun and SunGard focused on achieving straight-through processing”, said Jack McArdle, group chief executive officer of SunGard Investment Management Systems. “Our priority is to provide clients with unmatched levels of service, reliability, scalability and performance across the board. The Sun configured platform has proven that it is ideally suited for our UNIX(R) system-based business-critical applications.”

As a strategic global iForce partner, Sun provides the infrastructure for many key SunGard applications and services, including trading systems and availability services.
