6/17/2003 - Primagraphics, the command & control, video and graphics specialist, has been awarded a US$500,000 (GB£300,000) contract by General Dynamics Electric Boat to supply equipment for use on board the U.S. Navy's fleet of Virginia-class submarines.
The new Virginia-class attack submarine is an advanced stealth multi mission nuclear powered submarine, which represents a revolution in advanced design, construction techniques and mission flexibility. Electric Boat and Northrop Grumman Newport News are sharing construction of the first four ships of the class under the terms of a US$4.2 billion contract awarded by the U.S. Navy in 1998. The lead ship, Virginia, is scheduled for delivery in 2004.
Engineers at Electric Boat's Groton, Connecticut facility will integrate Primagraphics' multi-layer graphics cards - from its VME-based CAT family - into the display systems on board the new attack submarines.
The CAT family provides a single slot solution to a wide range of demanding graphics and image processing applications providing exceptional graphics performance with a flexible expandable design that allows a number of display and I/O daughterboards to be used.
John Hunter, VP of sales and marketing at Primagraphics, said: "This prestigious contract is yet further proof of our growing stature in the global naval command and control market."
