Dot Hill, Advance Networks Take Disaster Out of Labor in Mexico

6/17/2003 - Dot Hill (AMEX: HIL) announced that its SANnet® storage systems are being used in the disaster recovery solution deployed at the Secretaria del Trabajo y Prevision Social (Department of Labor) in Mexico City by value added reseller Advance Networks.

The Secretaria del Trabajo y Prevision Social needed to have its IT infrastructure upgraded to better manage and use its large databases of information. These databases are critical to the agency because they contain the country’s labor statistics and other important data. Because of the mission-critical nature of the information being input, analyzed and stored, the agency also required replication to a planned remote site in northern Mexico.

“We needed to upgrade our existing infrastructure including servers and storage in order to increase our capabilities in working with the data,” said Act. Carlos Prieto-Madero, MSc., Director General de Informática y Telecomunicaciones of Secretaría del Trabajo y Previsión Social. “Our plan is to replicate data to and from a remote site to ensure continuous availability even during and after an unplanned catastrophic event. We’re getting excellent performance from the entire solution, and the new systems have made our agency more productive.”

Advance Networks participated in and won a public bid to design and implement a complete solution for this Mexican government agency. The solution deployed includes multiple servers and a five-terabyte storage area network (SAN) disaster recovery system. “We implemented the SAN using Dot Hill’s SANnet storage systems, SANscape® storage management software, SANpath® storage networking software and Brocade switches,” said Armando Meave, owner and CEO of Advance Networks.

“We are pleased that our products are part of the solution that is helping Mexico’s Department of Labor operate more efficiently,” said Jim Lambert, president and CEO of Dot Hill. “Because the SANnet product line is so rugged and reliable, it is particularly well suited to mission-critical applications.”
