6/5/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A, AGR.B), a leading supplier of integrated circuits for the wireless data, high-density storage and multi-service networking marketplaces, has selected the Agilent RFDE (radio frequency design environment) to develop Agere's new RF/mixed signal IC design flow.
The new design flow, based on the Agilent RF Design Environment (RFDE), provides Agere designers with access to Agilent's premier RF design tools, enabling them to model and simulate high-frequency effects in new chip designs with greater speed, accuracy and efficiency. Released in June 2002, the Agilent RF Design Environment (RFDE) was co-developed with Cadence Design Systems to enhance the speed, accuracy and efficiency of the IC design process. RFDE is the first product to result from the Agilent alliance with Cadence, and gives analog and RF engineers access to frequency-domain simulation technology from within the Cadence environment.
"We expect that by creating an RFDE-based design flow, we can increase productivity by enhancing our capability to efficiently design RF and mixed-signal blocks in one integrated flow," said Don Friedberg, director of design methodologies at Agere Systems. "This streamlined design flow enables us to get our next-generation wireless and high-speed analog chips to market more quickly."
"The increase in data rates, carrier frequencies, and the complexity of specifications require EDA tools that can provide fast and accurate measurements. The Agilent RFDE (radio frequency design environment) is the perfect choice to help with development of Agere's new RF/mixed signal IC design flow," said Jim Tabuchi, marketing and services manager at Agilent EEsof EDA. "The collaboration extends our long-standing relationship with Agere that began with their adoption of the Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) into their design flow."
