Compuware XPEDITER Improves Columbia's Student Information System

6/4/2003 - Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR) announced that Columbia University has entered into an agreement to use Compuware’s mainframe interactive analysis, debugging and testing product, XPEDITER, to improve and maintain the University’s Student Information System (SIS). The SIS is Columbia’s student administrative application, which includes data relating to registration, admission, housing, financial aid and student accounts.

Prior to using the XPEDITER product, Columbia’s debugging and productivity problems with SIS took as long as two days to fix. By replacing a competing product with XPEDITER, Columbia has experienced a 50 percent productivity gain, reducing the problem-resolution time to less than one day. XPEDITER has also given Columbia’s IS Team the ability to quickly implement enhancements to the SIS application, making the SIS even more efficient for staff and students.

Columbia’s SIS programmers are further benefiting from the use of XPEDITER by being able to test stub programs without having the main program or JCL. Additionally, the programmers can remotely trap a program that was launched by a PC graphical front end, allowing them to intercept called programs without needing to see the source for the main page. XPEDITER also works in a user-friendly fashion with the various environments that Columbia already had in place, providing great flexibility while allowing a seamless transition to a new testing and debugging solution.

"It is important to Columbia’s IS Team to use a product that is part of a family of integrated tools, allowing us to invest in future expansion of this critical application, as well as providing quick problem resolution," said Simon Lublinsky, Project Leader, Columbia University. "Choosing to use XPEDITER has been a good business decision."

"Powerful debugging capabilities, tight integration to other Compuware products and an easy, intuitive interface make XPEDITER the product of choice in large IT organizations all over the world," said Tyler Allman, Compuware Product Manager. "Especially in today’s multi-tiered applications, developers need proven tool-sets to deploy systems that are reliable, secure, optimized and always available. Compuware delivers these tools with higher functionality and quality than other software vendors."
