NEBS Certifies Dot Hill’s SANnet II Blade, NAS Products for Level 3

6/4/2003 - Dot Hill (AMEX: HIL) announced that its SANnet® II Blade and NAS products received NEBS Level 3 certification. Dot Hill had previously received NEBS certification for its currently shipping SANnet II Fibre Channel and SCSI products. The entire SANnet II product family has now been certified to meet the rigorous NEBS Level 3 standards along with MIL-STD-810F, commonly known as “Mil-Spec.”

Dot Hill is committed to NEBS (Network Equipment Building System) Level 3 and MIL-STD-810F certification for data storage systems as a true enhancement to business continuance. NEBS Level 3 certification, a telecommunications industry standard, ensures operation in extreme environmental conditions. MIL-STD-810F is the Department of Defense environmental operating conditions standard. Dot Hill’s entire SANnet II product line is MIL-STD-810F certified.

Dot Hill welcomed the recent announcement of NEBS Level 3 certification by other storage vendors as a validation of the importance of independent testing and certification and the value of the standards themselves. Since 1995, Dot Hill has been certifying its storage systems to the NEBS Level 3 standards. As a long time provider of storage solutions for top tier telecommunications customers including Motorola, Nortel, UUNet and Comverse, Dot Hill has years of experience in this sector. In addition to the NEBS Level 3 certification, the complete SANnet II product line is available in the telecommunications industry standard -48VDC power option.

“NEBS Level 3 and MIL STD-810F certifications tell the world that certified products are rugged and reliable, beyond enterprise class and the glass house of the data center,” said Mike Karp, senior analyst, Enterprise Management Associates. “While NEBS is required in the telco sector and ‘Mil-Spec’ in the defense industry, many businesses operate daily in environments that put their storage hardware at risk from dust, vibration, electrical discharge and other external factors.”

Dot Hill achieved the rigorous NEBS Level 3 certification for the first time over eight years ago. Its products have continued to achieve certification with each new generation as they are released – including the SANnet II family of fibre channel and SCSI systems, along with the 1U (1.75 inches high) SCSI blade and the NAS product line. Dot Hill supports the NEBS and mil-spec standards across its entire broad product line. All of today’s most widely deployed storage architectures – SAN (storage area network), NAS and DAS (direct attached storage) – are also supported.

CEO James Lambert of Dot Hill said, “Because Dot Hill has historically and continues to sell into the telco sector, NEBS Level 3 certification was a necessity for our products. However, it is also an important factor assuring our customers in all industries that our products will keep data safe, secure and accessible in the face of extreme environmental conditions - like those that exist on the manufacturing floor, for example.” He added, “This level of NEBS certification gives customers confidence that their businesses will continue to operate in spite of the environmental factors.”

The SANnet II family of storage systems provides industry-leading 99.9998+ percent uptime as measured by the Telecordia NEBS guidelines in a compact, rugged enclosure. SANnet II brings enterprise class features into the workgroup and virtually eliminates downtime with no single points of failure. The common modular architecture of the SANnet II product family provides seamless scalability for future growth. All SANnet II products feature hot-swappable, field-replaceable components including drives, controllers, power supplies, fans and event monitoring units.
