Borland, Fujitsu to Develop Solutions for Java 2 Enterprise Apps

6/4/2003 - Borland (Japan) Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Borland Software Corporation (Nasdaq NM: BORL), and Fujitsu Limited announced a global channel license and a development and marketing agreement to jointly deliver a value-added solution designed to help companies develop and deploy JavaTM 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EETM) applications faster on Fujitsu's Interstage Application Server using industry-leading Borland development solutions for Java. Fujitsu will provide the value-added solution (available in both English and Japanese), directly or indirectly through distributors, to its worldwide customers.

The solutions include a plug-in, developed by Fujitsu, that integrates Borland® JBuilder® Enterprise Edition, including Borland® OptimizeitTM Suite, with Fujitsu's Interstage Application Server. Through the global channel license agreement, Fujitsu will distribute Borland JBuilder Enterprise Edition, including Borland Optimizeit.

Developed and distributed by Fujitsu, Interstage is middleware that utilizes J2EE, Web Services, Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Extensible Markup Language (XML) technologies to enable collaborative use of business resources on the web.

"We are very impressed with Borland JBuilder and see it as a leading development environment for Java," said Mitsuhiro Hashimoto, General Manager, Middleware Platform Division of Fujitsu Limited's Software Group. "With the addition of Borland JBuilder as another advanced Java/XML development solution for Interstage Application Server, alongside of our Interstage Apworks, we believe more customers will choose Interstage for deploying their systems."

In addition to providing support in sales and marketing, Borland will offer technical support for the development of the plug-in, as well as regular technical training to Fujitsu's engineers and sales team. End-users of the value-added solution can enjoy technical support offered by the Fujitsu support teams and distributors worldwide.

The demand for integration within the application development lifecycle has increased as J2EE applications become much more sophisticated. The integration of Fujitsu's Interstage Application Server and Borland JBuilder will help accelerate development and deployment of J2EE applications, increasing customers' competitive advantage by helping them complete projects faster.

"The channel license agreement with Fujitsu enables Borland to provide its Java solutions and support to a wider range of customer," said Kiyoshi Kotegawa, president of Borland Japan.

"The need for an integrated development platform increases as the scale of J2EE application development becomes larger and more complex. Seamless integration of the Borland Java development solution and Fujitsu application infrastructure will add value to Fujitsu customers by increasing application development speed, increasing return on investment and decreasing total cost of ownership."
