6/4/2003 - Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading data communications and telecommunications company based in suburban Minneapolis, announces a stand-alone DID fax server designed to make networking fax operations simple and cost effective. The new FaxFinder contains two V.34 fax modems for receiving DID faxes and sending/receiving faxes over a standard PSTN phone line. The FaxFinder can receive faxes from a DID trunk, convert them to an email format and send them via email to any network location based on pre-assigned DID numbers. On a send operation, bundled driver client software for Windows can send faxes via the second fax modem anywhere in the world. These fax operations are handled by the industry’s most advanced modems which support DID and “Super G3” ITU V.34 standard fax communications. In addition the unit also supports two dimensional compression, real time fax compression conversion, and ECM (Error Correction Mode). The FaxFinder DID model FF110 external desktop fax server will be shipping next month at an MSRP of US$999.
“Fax operations are still a necessary part of doing business, but integrating them into a computer network can be very expensive and unnecessarily complicated,” states Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech-Tech Systems, Inc. “Our new FaxFinder both lowers fax networking costs and simplifies the process. With virtually all other network fax solutions requiring the expense and complications of using a PC running software, the FaxFinder breaks through that requirement by including all necessary software and hardware in its modem-sized desktop cabinet. To install the FaxFinder, it is a matter of connecting two phone lines to the modems, the network to the Ethernet port and running the browser-based software on a network connected PC for configuration and monitoring. For users they see faxes as emails with fax file attachments for inbound and see another print option to the FaxFinder for outbound. This new product combines the necessary features for virtually any size enterprise to start taking advantage of the convenience and cost savings associated with super G3 faxing and two-dimensional compression, while enriching the process by enabling the necessary routing and convenience capabilities available through the unit’s DID capabilities.”
The new FaxFinder model FF110 external desktop DID fax server converts incoming faxes on a DID trunk into emails and routes them to network users based on pre-assigned DID phone numbers. It also sends faxes from any Windows network user using bundled client software. The FaxFinder includes two fax modems: one for incoming faxes via a DID trunk line and one for outgoing and incoming faxes via a PSTN phone line. DID offers a high degree of security for both the sender and the recipient because of the faxes are routed directly to the recipients email box as opposed to printing out on a fax machine. The FaxFinder also includes an Ethernet port for connection to a compatible network. The fax modems used on the FaxFinder feature performance enhancing capabilities including V.34 fax communications plus MP and MMR compression support. (Note: Fax compression allows for the use and conversion of the commonly used MH - Modified Huffman, plus MR -Modified READ- and MMR -Modified-Modified READ- which are one dimensional, mixed one and two dimensional, and two dimensional compression respectively.) Since most new fax machines support all of these compression techniques, the FaxFinder provides the best compatibility and performance regardless of the fax source.
