Agilent, Anite Telecoms to Launch Test Solutions for Wireless Devices

6/4/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) and Anite Telecoms announced an agreement to jointly develop and promote RF (radio frequency) protocol and network emulation test solutions to wireless device manufacturers and network operators worldwide. The combined Agilent and Anite solutions are expected to reduce wireless device development time and overall design costs.

Today's latest wireless devices combine voice and data to provide an increasing number of communication, entertainment and productivity functions. To ensure that wireless device software and hardware work together with other communication devices on the wireless network, the designers must rigorously test and verify their new product designs and protocol implementations.

The two companies' first proposed test solutions would combine the Agilent 8960 hardware with Anite's conformance and interoperability test systems, and are expected to provide manufacturers with a common test platform that offers increased consistency of test results from early-design RF and protocol testing to full conformance and interoperability verification. The platform is expected to provide equipment manufacturers, type approval labs and network operators with a test solution that can reduce product development time and overall design costs.

"With uniform network emulation and protocol test capabilities across the product life cycle, designers of wireless device applications can reliably validate software integration under real-world conditions to accelerate time to market," said Daniel Oosthuizen, director, Anite. "As Anite lays the foundation for continued growth and leadership in the wireless market, integration of our software with Agilent products provides customers with the security and peace of mind that comes from working with two of the industry's most respected technology providers."

"By working together, Anite and Agilent plan to provide unprecedented test coverage on one test platform that spans the entire development and verification cycle," said Pat Byrne, vice president, Agilent Wireless Business Unit. "Agilent is pleased to be working with Anite, who we consider to be the leading provider of conformance and interoperability test solutions for 2G, 2.5G and 3G devices."

In addition to the planned product development, Agilent has agreed to fulfill existing product service agreements and provide ongoing customer support for Anite's 2G (second generation) wireless test and measurement platforms.
