Agilent First to Roll Out Full-speed x8 PCI Express Test Series

6/3/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) demonstrated the industry's first full-speed x8 PCI Express test series for engineers and lab managers in R&D, validation and QA labs who are testing PCI Express drivers, BIOS, chipsets, boards, systems and platforms.

The Agilent E2960 test series, the most complete and innovative array of test equipment in PCI Express, supports the industry's move from parallel to serial I/O busses by being the first available and most complete test solution for serial busses. It also protects the customer's investment through its flexible functionality, high bandwidth, latest serial protocols, connectivity and consistent usability.

The E2960 series currently consists of the new serial protocol test platform for PCI Express -- the first full speed x8, x4 and x1 protocol exerciser and analyzer -- as well as the industry's first separate protocol test card. It offers a complete test environment, providing modular full-speed PCI Express x8 and x4 server and chipset validation for increasing test coverage in less test time.

The modular, mobile and expandable serial protocol test platform supports several serial protocols, including PCI Express. The series comprises three key protocol test elements:

  • The protocol analyzer -- with Agilent's patented dynamic trigger conditions, is the core debug and bring-up test tool for root cause analysis, trouble shooting and performance analysis.
  • The protocol exerciser -- is the first solution on the market for PCI Express x8 and x4, and contains a unique Command Application Programming Interface (CAPI). The exerciser complements the analyzer for a complete and efficient bring up and debug test environment.
  • The protocol test card for PCI Express x1 -- provides a low-cost PCI Express compliance test solution intended for each software developer and hardware designer who needs to prove PCI Express compliance of their PCI Express designs.

"Computer users today have never been more demanding when it comes to the performance of their PCs and networks," said Siegfried Gross, vice president and general manager for Agilent's Digital Verification Solutions Division. "Agilent's new test offering lets developers start testing now, and helps take the pressure away to quickly bring new I/O technologies to market that increase speeds and improve communications between peripherals and servers.

U.S. Pricing and Availability
The Agilent E2960 series for PCI Express is available now and priced as follows: the Agilent E2969A protocol test card is $4,950, the protocol exercisers start at $38,000, and the protocol analyzers start at $30,000. The platform exerciser and analyzer is expected to ship in August and the protocol test card in October 2003.
