Performance Technologies Launches Packet-Switched Chassis Platform

6/3/2003 - Performance Technologies (Nasdaq NM: PTIX), a leader in unified systems design for the communications, military and commercial markets, introduced the IPnexusTM ZT 5091e packet-switched chassis platform. The ZT 5091e, part of Performance Technologies' complete line of IPnexus packet-based, embedded products, provides equipment manufacturers and systems integrators with a standards-based platform solution built on the PICMG® 2.16 and PICMG 2.9 specifications.

The IPnexus family encompasses all of Performance Technologies' PICMG 2.16-based products. With the addition of the ZT 5091e platform, the IPnexus family offers a complete line of products for the packet-switched backplane architecture, including chassis, Ethernet switches, system management modules, single board computers, network access adapters, SS7 signaling blades and a host of communications protocols and development environments. The ZT 5091e is also compatible with PICMG 2.16 and 2.9-compliant products available from third-party vendors.

"Our packet-based IPnexus family provides customers with a unified product set by tightly integrating PICMG 2.16-compatible building blocks, system management functions, high availability and a full suite of enabling software," said Tony Romero, senior product manager for Performance Technologies. "We are providing customers with a complete set of embedded products by which to develop systems based on PICMG standards such as 2.16 for packet-switched backplane interconnect and 2.9 for IPMI system management."

With one integrated chassis management module slot, one Ethernet switch slot and seven node slots transversely mounted in a 4U chassis, the ZT 5091e platform provides both high density computing and integrated 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet support on the backplane. A chassis management module enables customers to manage all IPMI-based components and conduct chassis diagnostics remotely for enhanced system reliability. Its hot-swappable system components simplify replacement and minimize service time, offering less than five minutes mean time to repair for all components.

The IPnexus ZT 5091e platform is currently available for Beta customers. General availability is scheduled for September.
