IDT First to Develop Single-Chip 32Kx32K Time Slot Interchange Switch

6/3/2003 - IDTTM (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, introduced the industry’s first single-chip, highest-density 32K x 32K time slot interchange (TSI) switch. Building on the company’s existing portfolio of TSI switches, this new device offers an advanced set of functions, including programmable pulse code modulation (PCM) rates that operate in groups of eight, enabling it to serve as a switch element between various devices operating at different speeds, such as digital signal processors (DSPs), framers, mappers, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). Other advanced functions include group memory block programming to ease setup, and bit error rate (BER) testing, to facilitate board-level diagnostics. Unlike some competing, high-capacity TSI switches, this new product supports a variable delay mode, which offers a minimum 3-timeslot delay for latency sensitive traffic, and a two-frame constant delay mode that supports frame integrity for data traffic. In addition, the part supports 32-Mbps stream rates and is pin compatible with the company’s existing family of TSI switches, enabling an easy migration path.

The new 32K TSI device provides the highest-switching capacities available to help designers of media gateways, multi-service aggregators and next-generation digital loop carriers (DLC) meet the requirements of high-capacity, channelized TDM interfaces in centralized and distributed switch architectures. The 32K TSI switch is available in a 208-pin BGA package, which is 55 percent smaller than competing 16K devices, as well as a 208-pin PQFP package.

Pricing and Availability
The IDT 32K TSI switch is sampling now with production quantities available in Q3CY03. Volume pricing for the 32K TSI switch starts at $73.64 in 10,000-unit quantities. In addition to the 32K density device, IDT also introduced a 16K x 16K density device that is also sampling now with production quantities available in Q3CY03. Volume pricing for the 16K density device starts at $56.65 in 10,000-unit quantities.
