CATC Rolls Out Multi-Lane PCI Express Protocol Analyzer

6/3/2003 - Computer Access Technology Corporation (CATC) (Nasdaq: CATZ), a leading communications protocol expert company, announced the expansion of its line of industry leading PCI Express analyzers with the introduction of PETracer(TM) ML (Multi-Lane) PCI Express advanced verification system. A single PETracer ML analyzer supports bi-directional x1, x2 and x4 links, as well as unidirectional x8 PCI Express link data capture and analysis. Combining two PETracer ML analyzer systems allows for full bi-directional decode and capture of x8 PCI Express links. PETracer ML blends sophisticated functionality with practical features to help engineers speed the development of PCI Express IP cores, semiconductors, bridges, switches and systems.

PETracer ML uses a high impedance non-intrusive probing technology allowing full, unaltered data pass-through. It offers a dual approach for tapping into the PCI Express fabric with a slot interposer card and a mid-bus probe. PETracer ML utilizes the intuitive and powerful CATC Trace(TM) expert analysis software to process, decode and analyze captured PCI Express traffic. The CATC Trace provides accurate, reliable and complete decodes of Transaction Layer Packets (TLPs), Data Link Layer Packets (DLLPs) and all PCI Express primitives. For deeper analysis, users can display packet contents as raw 10-bit codes.

"PETracer, the industry-first PCI Express x1 analyzer, has been well received since its introduction in February 2003 and we continue to enhance our PCI Express analyzer family to meet the increasing requirements of the marketplace. The new PETracer ML analyzer has the flexibility to support the development of a range of components that will meet the market demands for faster communications," stated Mark Abbas, PCI Express product marketing manager for CATC. "Engineers can combine two PETracer ML systems to capture and debug bi-directional x8 transfers or use the two systems individually to capture and debug separate x4 systems."

"PCI Express adoption is rapidly gaining momentum with the first PCI Express systems expected to arrive on the market in early 2004," said Jim Pappas, director of initiative marketing, Intel Enterprise Platform Group. "CATC has a history of being a leading provider of analyzers for new technologies such as PCI Express. CATC's analyzers will assist in accelerating product development to meet expected 2004 delivery of PCI Express solutions."

PETracer ML is based on CATC's Universal Protocol Analysis System(TM) (UPAS(TM)) 10K platform that supports additional high-speed communications protocols such as Fibre Channel and InfiniBand. Like all CATC analyzers systems, the CATC Trace software controls the PETracer ML hardware. Embedded in this sophisticated application is a deep understanding of the PCI Express protocol hierarchy and intricacies. The CATC Trace presents this knowledge to the user in a colorful, intuitive and easy to use graphical display, allowing users to quickly capture and validate PCI Express product designs.

CATC is accepting orders for the PETracer ML with delivery beginning in July 2003. For further information, please contact CATC or its worldwide network of distribution partners.
