6/2/2003 - CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio), the world's leading single-chip Bluetooth company has taken delivery of a Teradyne Bluetooth testing machine valued at around £700,000 ($1.1 million). The tester, just installed at the company's Cambridge UK headquarters, will allow the company to double the speed of testing its BlueCore semiconductor devices - up to a rate of 1000 tests per 6.5 seconds. This will further improve the cost effectiveness and quality of CSR products and improve the time to market.
CSR develops all the test programs for devices in production before consigning them to test houses. Typically a BlueCore device will have 500 or more tests in the production program and currently that would take about 5 seconds to complete and the cost of testing devices is directly proportional to the test time, as CSR pays for each second used.
Patrick McNamee, vice president product engineering, CSR commented, "Teradyne are the world leaders in the testing of high performance semiconductors." McNamee continued, "Coupled with CSR's Design For Test (DFT) methodology, having the tester at our Cambridge headquarters ensures our Bluetooth products will continue to be delivered with both the quality and cost effectiveness that our customers have come to expect."
