5/30/2003 - NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) has named The Titan Corporation the winner of the 2003 Goddard Contractor Excellence Award. This prestigious award recognizes companies that have significantly contributed to the success of the Goddard Center's mission.
"Titan has been a trusted partner providing NASA with exceptional systems assurance and engineering services for over 20 years," said Gene Ray, Titan's chairman, president and CEO. "This award reflects the pride, dedication to quality, and day-to-day commitment of our employees in supporting NASA Goddard.
Presentation of the Goddard Contractor Excellence Award signifies Goddard's recognition that Titan has demonstrated excellence, continuous improvement and outstanding technical and managerial achievement in quality and performance. As a result of this award, Titan will now compete for the 2003 George M. Low Award, NASA's premier quality and performance award.
The award is given to contractors who demonstrate appropriate achievement within seven nomination factors: customer satisfaction and contract technical performance, schedule performance, cost performance, management initiatives responsive to GSFC's strategic goals, leadership and continuous improvement, innovative management and/or technology breakthroughs, and items of special interest to GSFC. The latter category is mostly concerned with developing and nurturing human capital.
Titan performs on four contracts with GSFC, all dealing with Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) services and operating under an ISO certified Quality Management System (QMS). The QMS was cited by Goddard as a key discriminator in Titan's selection and was characterized by the site evaluation team as "wonderful" and "the best quality system I've ever seen." Services provided by Titan under these contracts support a variety of programs including the International Space Station, the Space Transportation System (Shuttle), and the Earth Observing System Data and Information System. Titan's work is accomplished across the agency at development contractor sites, seven NASA centers and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Headquartered in San Diego, The Titan Corporation is a leading provider of comprehensive information and communications systems solutions and services to the Department of Defense, intelligence agencies, and other federal government customers. The company has approximately 10,500 employees and current annualized sales of approximately $1.5 billion.
