5/27/2003 - I-Logix, a leading provider of system design and software development solutions, announced that the Air Systems Business Group of BAE SYSTEMS, Warton, England, has ordered over $1M of I-Logix’ Statemate and Rhapsody products and services to support numerous military and aerospace programs across the Air Systems organization. Being a customer of I-Logix for over 12 years this latest commitment builds on the long-term relationship between BAE SYSTEMS and I-Logix and illustrates the growing importance of model-driven development in the Aerospace Industry.
"We are now using I-Logix’ design tools successfully on almost all of our Air Sector programs including Tornado, Harrier, Hawk, and more recently, Eurofighter Typhoon and the F35/Joint Strike Fighter," states Mark Kehoe Head of Systems Process R&D in the Air Systems Business Group of BAE SYSTEMS. "The use of products like Statemate has enabled BAE SYSTEMS to adopt a model-driven development process which provides a host of compelling advantages. Our systems engineers are able to create virtual models of complex systems, which we can simulate at very early stages of development. This enables us to validate the system design with our customers and partners, and ensure that the system behaves as intended before we begin implementation, eliminating costly engineering change cycles. The graphical model also provides a common medium for communication with our partners, which removes much of the ambiguity associated with more traditional document-driven approaches. The ability to acquire production-quality commercial off the shelf tools and support services from companies like I-Logix is fundamental to our engineering and commercial strategies."
"I-Logix is committed to providing model-driven development products and services as the means for increasing overall productivity on large aerospace programs, by enabling design and specification errors to be found early in the development process, improving design flexibility and enabling the auto-generation of production-quality code and test scenarios," states Gene Robinson, president and CEO, I-Logix. "Our long standing relationship with BAE SYSTEMS has enabled us to enhance our solutions to meet the particular demands of the military/aerospace market which is the basis for this significant order and our growing position in other large programs such the F35/Joint Strike Fighter, the F22, the F16, the Meteor Missile, and the US Future Combat Systems initiative to name a few."
Virtually the de facto standard among military/aerospace and automotive users, I-Logix Statemate enables systems engineers to graphically design and model a system, analyze, verify and prove, with mathematical and formal verification that the model exactly complies to the desired behavior. Statemate facilitates the creation of executable specifications and is widely used for virtual prototyping. Statemate facilitates Concurrent Engineering and model-driven development by providing a graphical (and formal) link between user requirements and software implementation. Operating on either an engineering workstation or PC, Statemate has the ability to simulate system models, thereby enabling the systems engineer to make and verify changes on the fly. Statemate automatically generates documentation, provides corporate re-use of key system components, and its open architecture enables seamless integration with leading requirements traceability, configuration management, and software development tools, including I-Logix Rhapsody.
I-Logix Rhapsody is an award winning, UML compliant, systems design, application development, and collaboration platform. Rhapsody is used by design and development teams to deliver real-time embedded applications in C, C++, Java, and Ada. Rhapsody uniquely combines a graphical UML programming paradigm with advanced systems design and analysis capabilities and seamlessly links with the target implementation language, resulting in a complete model-driven development environment, from requirements capture through analysis, design, implementation and test. Operating on either an engineering workstation or PC, Rhapsody has the ability to "execute" graphical models and debug behavior at the design level, both at the host as well as the target, produce test vectors and generate production quality code within a single development environment. Using Rhapsody developers can maintain applications at the code level through graphical models. If changes are made to the model, the application code changes as well to correspond to the modifications; and if the code is altered, the models are dynamically updated. The dynamic bi-directional link between the code and the design documentation ensures Rhapsody is ideally suited for all members of the design team. Rhapsody also incorporates formal verification and Internet technologies to provide unique testing and collaborative capabilities. Leveraging these innovative techniques via an intuitive user-interface, Rhapsody dramatically boosts productivity and dramatically improves team collaboration, quality and re-use…leading to significantly compressed development cycles.
Founded in 1987, I-Logix is a leading provider of solutions for systems design through software development focused on real-time embedded applications. These solutions allow engineers to graphically model the behavior and functionality of their embedded systems, analyze and validate the system and automatically generate production quality code in a variety of languages. In 2002, I-Logix introduced an enterprise level Product Lifecycle Management Portal that enables users to easily cope with the enormous amount of information that is generated as a product is designed, developed, and marketed.
I-Logix was one of the seven founding companies of the Unified Modeling LanguageTM (UMLTM), is a member of the Object Management GroupTM (OMGTM), the Bluetooth SIG, the International Council of Systems Engineers (INCOSE), and a founding member of the Embedded Linux Consortium. I-Logix is backed by ABS Ventures, One Liberty Ventures, North Bridge Venture Partners, Commonwealth Capital Ventures, Gilde Investments, Phillips Ventures BV, and Needham Capital Partners. I-Logix is headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts and has sales and support centers throughout North America, Europe, and the Far East. I-Logix can be found on the Internet at http://www.ilogix.com.
