Kane Computing Unveils Starter Kit for TI's 225MHz Floating Point DSP

5/27/2003 - Kane Computing have announced the first DSP board incorporating the latest 225MHz floating point DSP from Texas Instruments.

The TMS320C6713 DSP Starter Kit (DSK) gives users a convenient, low cost means of evaluating the features and architecture of the TMS320C6713 Digital Signal Processor from Texas Instruments. The stand alone C6713 DSK comes with a wide range of on board peripherals and interfaces to allow the development of a variety of signal processing applications. With up to 1800 MIPS of processing power the TMS320C6713 can be used to develop algorithms in the following areas; speech compression/decompression, speech recognition, text-to-speech, fax/data conversion, modems, protocol conversions, tone generation/detection, and echo cancellation.

Specific hardware features include an embedded USB JTAG controller with plug and play drivers, high specification CODEC, 2M x 32 on board SDRAM, 512Kbytes on board Flash ROM, three expansion connectors (Memory Interface, Peripheral Interface and Host Port Interface) and JTAG controller for optional external emulator debugging using an XDS510 or XDS560 compatible emulator.

The TMS320C6713 DSK comes with a DSK specific version of Code Composer Studio for the C6000 family. This tool suite includes an ANSI "C" compiler, assembler, linker, debugger, and DSP BIOSTM. In addition, a flash ROM programming utility is provided to allow developed code to be flashed into the on board Flash ROM for stand alone applications.
