Maury Microwave Licenses Agilent's Large Signal Network Analysis Technology

5/23/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) and Maury Microwave Corporation announced an agreement allowing Maury Microwave to license Agilent's large signal network analysis (LSNA) technology for commercialization, manufacture, sales and support. The agreement also transfers support of Agilent's existing LSNA customers to Maury Microwave, an Agilent Channel Partner and a leading provider of RF & microwave test and measurement solutions and device characterization systems.

The agreement with Maury Microwave does not affect Agilent's industry-leading PNA Series, ENA Series or other vector network analyzer products, which Agilent continues to develop and manufacture.

Agilent developed the LSNA technology to address the non-linear large signal measurement needs of the semiconductor R&D and manufacturing customers to characterize amplifiers, transistors and other active components in cell phones, base stations and aerospace/defense equipment.

Today's telecommunications equipment often use complex modulation schemes, require higher power efficiency, and demand smaller size and lower cost. The increasing demands for greater capabilities and better performance are forcing designers to drive devices in their non-linear regions of operation. A variety of equipment and measurement techniques have been used to characterize this non-linear behavior; however, they yield results that do not represent the true behavior of the device, leading to less-than-optimal designs, numerous design iterations and more time-consuming tuning and test in manufacturing. LSNA characterizes non-linear device behavior under more realistic conditions, giving designers unprecedented insight into component behavior.
