Windchill Customers Warm up to Sun ONE Application Server Support

5/22/2003 - PTC, a leading software product development company, announced support for several J2EE-based application servers including the Sun ONE Application Server 7, Standard Edition -- a key component of Sun's open, integratable product platform enabling the development and delivery of Java Web services. This new support is particularly significant for today's PLM customers who require end-to-end high performance and scalability across a broad range of Web and enterprise applications.

By integrating the Sun ONE Application Server into its Windchill 7.0 solution, PTC aims to provide customers with added functionality, mission critical scalability and platform flexibility for the development and deployment of a pure, open, standards-based foundation for PLM technology. This release promises Windchill customers improved performance and scalability.

In fact, in joint tests conducted by PTC and Sun with PTC's ProjectLink Solution (an application based on Windchill), the Sun ONE Application Server demonstrated 33% better throughput and linear scaleability under heavy simulated user testing, vis-a-vis solutions such as Apache/Tomcat technology used today by many of PTC's customers today.
