5/22/2003 - In what can be considered another milestone in mobile computing, Fujitsu PC Corporation introduced the world's smallest full-featured notebook PC to incorporate Intel® CentrinoTM 3 mobile technology.
Starting at $1,5491, the new LifeBook® P5000 notebook bridges the gap between ultraportable and full-feature computing. At first glance, the notebook looks and feels like an ultraportable. However, this 3.4-pound notebook breaks all the norms. It is powered by an Ultra Low Voltage Intel® Pentium® M Processor 900MHz and features the Intel® PRO/Wireless Network Connection 802.11b and Intel® 855GM chipset. The combination of technologies was designed specifically for mobile applications and works in concert to deliver superior performance, wireless capabilities and extended battery life.
To take it one step further, the LifeBook P5000 notebook is equipped with a modular bay that accommodates either a DVD/CD-RW drive, a second battery or a weight saver module. The optional combination drive, coupled with a 10.6-inch wide-format display, transforms the notebook into a full-fledged multimedia solution. While on the road, users can watch DVD movies and burn CDs or they can insert the optional second battery for up to 10.5 hours2 of battery life. A weight saver also fits into the bay to shed around a half pound.
"From the beginning, Fujitsu has introduced mobile computing solutions that deliver superior performance in extremely small, lightweight form factors," said Sara Nelson, vice president of marketing, Fujitsu PC Corporation. "The LifeBook P5000 notebook continues this tradition. Never before has any notebook offered so much power and functionality in such a small package."

Users looking for 54gTM wireless capabilities or a non-wireless option can choose the LifeBook P5000D notebook. This model incorporates the Intel® Pentium® M Processor 900MHz and Intel® 855GM chipset, but can be purchased with or without 802.11b/54g wireless LAN.

If the notebook's sleek lines and ultra-cool display don't inspire creativity, its variety of high-speed ports and media slots certainly will. In addition to a pair of USB2.0 ports and an IEEE 1394 port, the ultraportable has dedicated Compact Flash and Memory Stick/Secure Digital (SD) card slots, giving users a multitude of ways to transfer music, pictures and data in record time.
The Fujitsu LifeBook P5000 notebook comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Professional. Users can choose among the recommended configurations or customize their notebook using the Fujitsu Configure To Order (CTO) program. Pricing for a recommended configuration with Intel® CentrinoTM mobile technology and a DVD/CD-RW combination drive starts at $1,6991. All Fujitsu notebooks can be purchased through the company's retail and reseller channels4 as well as at www.fujitsupc.com or 1-877-FPC-DIRECT.
Service and Support
The LifeBook P5000 notebook is backed by a three-year or one-year International Limited Warranty for U.S. and Canadian customers. The International Limited Warranty includes technical support, 24 hours a day, seven days a week5. In addition, users can add Fujitsu Premium Care Service Plans, which include an on-site service or a screen protection plan.
