5/22/2003 - Avnet Applied Computing, a $1.68 billion operating group of Avnet Inc. (NYSE: AVT), focusing on the embedded and white box computing markets, unveiled its plans to develop the distribution industry's first Class 100 clean room specifically designed for flat panel assembly and integration. Avnet Applied Computing has seen a growing demand for its flat panel display integration services. By creating a dedicated Class 100 clean room at its Phoenix headquarters, the company will increase its flat panel display integration capabilities by six-fold.

Avnet Applied Computing's clean room will meet the specifications of one of the most comprehensive federal classes of clean rooms, Class 100. By receiving this classification, the facility will have no more than 100 particles larger than 0.5 microns in any given cubic foot of air. This level of air purity ensures that contaminants will not be able to adhere to the flat panel as it is assembled into a finished product with casing and a touch screen.

The Class 100 clean room is designed to be scalable, which will enable Avnet Applied Computing to continue to expand its capabilities based on market demands. The Class 100 clean room will be fully operational by the end of this quarter.
