Fujitsu Siemens Brings Wireless Internet Café to Cannes Film Festival

5/20/2003 - Fujitsu Siemens Computers is supporting the UK film community at the 56th Annual Cannes Film Festival with a Wireless Internet Mobility solution for the festival's prestigious Beachside Pavilion and the UK Film Centre. The company has equipped the Beachside Pavilion with a network of WLAN-connected LIFEBOOK notebook PCs to create a wireless Internet café for visitors to the pavilion and help it promote European digital cinema at this year's festival.

Running from 14-25 May, the Beachside Pavilion's and UK Film Centre's wireless Internet café will be powered by 13 of the latest Fujitsu Siemens Computers LIFEBOOK S Series notebook PCs that feature Intel's new Centrino mobile technology. Fujitsu Siemens Computers was one of the first vendors to announce its support for Intel Centrino, which goes beyond the processor to enable easier wireless LAN connectivity and considerably longer battery life. The Beachside Pavilion was set up by the European Digital Cinema Forum to promote the use of digital technology in film-making and the pavilion is being run this year by event management company, Good Effects. The company will also be demonstrating the use of digital filming and live editing using Fujitsu Siemens Computers' PRIMERGY Intel-based servers during the festival.

"The Cannes Film Festival is one of the highlights of the film calendar and we're delighted that the leading European computer company is helping to promote digital cinema in Europe, as it represents a major technology change within our industry," commented Alison Knight, Managing Director of Good Effects. "We're also expecting the Beachside Pavilion's wireless Internet café to receive a lot of use, so we knew we needed a proven Mobility solution. We're pleased to be using Fujitsu Siemens Computers' LIFEBOOK S-Series notebooks which have a particularly strong reputation for reliability and excellent performance."

Based on Intel Centrino mobile technology, the new LIFEBOOK S6120 is the ultra-portable notebook with a multi-bay concept featuring improved power and extended battery life for wireless operation. The LIFEBOOK S6120 is available in two versions: the standard version LIFEBOOK S6120D without wireless options based on the Intel Pentium M processor at 1.40 GHz, and the version with integrated Bluetooth/Wireless LAN and Intel Pentium M processor at 1.40 GHz or 1.60 GHz. The modular bay accepts either a CD, DVD or Combo Drive (DVD/CD-R/RW), and also a DVD burner (+R/RW), a second hard disk drive for data backup or a second battery.
