Magma's Physical Design System Enables DSM SoC Solutions for CPU Tech

5/20/2003 - CPU Technology, Inc., an SoC company, and Magma® Design Automation, (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of integrated chip design solutions, announced they have signed a long-term licensing agreement for Magma's physical design tools.

The licensing agreement will allow CPU Tech to adopt a COT (Customer-Owned Tooling) model for its highly integrated, deep submicron SoC (System on a Chip) designs. CPU Tech will interface its differentiating front end, system level modeling and design tools to Magma's back-end placement and routing tools to achieve a seamless design flow.

CPU Tech has begun using Magma's system to implement a highly integrated, one-chip SoC design comprising 20 processors, 2.5 Mbits of RAM, 12 DMA controllers, 12 timers, multiple communication controllers (e.g. Ethernet, 1553), a high-performance split transaction bus, on-chip BIST (built-in self test), and "operate through" capability, to name some salient features.

"Our evaluation of Magma's system was very positive. Their ability to achieve rapid throughput time, flexibility in placement via 'GlassBoxTM' abstraction, and accuracy in achieving timing closure without multiple iteration cycles were factors that drove us to choosing their solution," noted Alan Smith, CTO of CPU Tech. "We look forward to working with the Magma team in rapidly bringing our next set of SoC projects to market, and feel confident that this flow will support our company's future design needs."

"We're pleased to partner with CPU Technology as they bring leading SoC technology to mission critical, high end applications. CPU Tech's ability to seamlessly link their front-end tools to Magma's back-end tools is a testament of our open interface," said Saeid Ghafouri, senior vice president, field operations. "We look forward to working with them to ensure design success as they bring this highly integrated SoC solution to the market."
