Tek Tools Speed USB 2.0 Compliance Testing for SCM Microsystems

5/16/2003 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), the global oscilloscope leader, announced the sale of its TDS7404 high-performance oscilloscope and USB 2.0 test package to SCM Microsystems, Inc., an advanced silicon software and hardware solutions provider with Global headquarters in Fremont, California, and European headquarters in Ismaning, Germany.

Developers of digital connectivity solutions, such as digital media readers and video capture cards, are facing increasing pressure to speed new products to market while ensuring their product is ready for USB 2.0 compliance testing. USB-IF guidelines stipulate that a USB device developer must have their product tested by a trained operator at an USB-IF-sanctioned plug-fest or a certified test facility. With the purchase of a TDS7404 digital phosphor oscilloscope and the TDSUSB2 test package, SCM Microsystems is able to carry out high-speed pre-compliance testing at its facility in India rather than outsourcing to a third-party.

"Using the Tektronix solution in the design of computer peripherals and cards makes it easier for us to comply with the USB-IF's predefined test procedures. We also value the speed the Tektronix solution brings us -- increased test throughput and the ability to generate test reports in less than 30 minutes," said Mr. M. Manickavelu, Senior Manager-Hardware SCM Microsystems (India) Pvt. Ltd. However, the ultimate benefit is that we have decreased the testing time and also have increased confidence in our designs. In the end, that's what really counts."

"Specified by the USB-IF standard, Tektronix' TDS7000 Series DPOs and the TDSUSB2 test package is the most comprehensive solution for USB 2.0 compliance testing," said Colin Shepard, Vice President and General Manager, Oscilloscope Products, Tektronix. "With these tools, SCM developers are now able to carry out the complex testing for compliance to the standard in half the time previously required."

An Automated Solution For Development And Troubleshooting
The TDS7404 oscilloscope is a member of Tektronix' digital phosphor oscilloscope (DPO) family. DPO technology, with its fast waveform capture rate and intensity-graded display, provides engineers with the ability to maximize the probability of discovering hidden faults or revealing dynamic signal behavior of their designs. The optional USB 2.0 measurement package provides an easy-to-use, automated solution for development and troubleshooting measurements for the evolution of this important standard.
