Camtronics VERICIS Provides Cardiology Image for Westchester Medical

5/13/2003 - Camtronics Medical Systems, Ltd., a subsidiary of Analogic Corporation (Nasdaq: ALOG), announced that Westchester Medical Center (WMC), Valhalla, New York, has selected its VERICIS(R) for Cardiology Image and Information Management System. The system will be installed at WMC's George E. Reed Heart Center, one of the most highly regarded cardiology and cardiac surgery programs on the east coast. The system will also extend into the Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, the region's only all-specialty children's hospital.

According to Melvin Weiss, MD, Chief of Cardiology at WMC, Camtronics' product breadth figured prominently in the institution's final decision "After an extensive, multi-year review of available systems, we found that Camtronics provided a comprehensive, fully integrated solution that satisfied all our needs," said Dr. Weiss. "The VERICIS system will span our cardiac cath and echocardiography labs; it includes integrated hemodynamic monitoring and provides our pediatric cardiologists with the premier reporting package for children with congenital heart disease. Furthermore, since the system is fully integrated, we don't have to worry about working across multiple platforms from different manufacturers, which can present all kinds of service and support problems."

The VERICIS system will acquire, store and distribute digital imges from the George E. Reed Heart Center's cardiac catheterization, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology laboratories. The cardiac cath lab at the Heart Center is among the busiest on the east coast, with an annual volume of nearly 8,000 cases. Approximately 10,000 echocardiograms and 900 nuclear cardiology studies are performed annually. The VERICIS installation at WMC will also include Camtronics' PhysioLog(TM) hemodynamic monitoring system, cardiac cath and echocardiography clinical reporting modules, Web Server and bi-directional Hospital Information System interface.

With VERICIS, physicians at the Heart Center will have instant network access to integrated cardiovascular patient records throughout the institution and secure Web access to patient images and reports via the hospital's intranet and the Internet. Final reports will be available quicker to other caregivers as cardiologists will be able to review studies and report their findings in a single session at VERICIS Workstations located throughout the facility.

Cardiologists at the Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center will be served by Camtronics' specialized image and information management system for pediatric echocardiography, VERICIS EchoIMS(TM). Integral to this system is the industry's leading pediatric reporting application developed by Camtronics' subsidiary VMI Medical, Inc.

VERICIS EchoIMS features a broad array of analytical tools specifically designed for assessing, diagnosing and treating children with congenital heart disease. At the heart of the system is the respected fetal and pediatric echocardiography database developed and refined by Children's Hospital, Boston. This "living library" of normative data contains indications, examination procedures and diagnostic findings for over 140,000 patient care episodes, going back to 1978.
