5/13/2003 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading provider of test, measurement, and monitoring solutions for network operators, announced a major multi-product, multi-unit sale of protocol, monitoring and maintenance tools to Advanced Info Service (AIS) PLC, Thailand's leading wireless operator.
To be profitable in today's wireless market, operators must deliver broad coverage, network functionality to support the latest mobile features, and superior Quality of Service (QoS). These requirements are met with aggressive network expansions that offer compelling wireless capabilities as new technologies emerge. Operators must have test and monitoring solutions that support these efforts by accelerating implementation and enabling profitability. Citing Tektronix' leadership in protocol and base station test, AIS has chosen Tektronix' portfolio of network operation and maintenance tools, including the industry-leading K1297-G20 protocol tester and portable NetTek® field tool, to complete its metropolitan network. The order totals approximately $1,200,000 US.
"Our target customers utilize advanced wireless features and expect reliable service," said Mr. Peravate Kijburana, Assistant Vice President, Network Quality Management, AIS. "As a result, Tektronix has worked closely with AIS' key engineers to define the most effective toolset to meet subscriber demands and enable its success."
"Advanced Info Services is able to quickly and effectively install and complete their network expansions with Tektronix' test tools, enabling them to begin generating revenue today," said Vince Ganley, Vice President, Asia Pacific Sales, Tektronix, Inc. "Tektronix' comprehensive portfolio of mobile and wireless network solutions enable operators to meet subscriber expectations and deliver superior Quality of Service."
Tektronix' Comprehensive Operation and Maintenance Portfolio Addresses AIS' Needs
AIS' order includes Tektronix' K1205 and K1297-G20 protocol testers, the NET-7 monitoring system, and the NetTek base transceiver station (BTS) field tool. Tektronix' protocol testers address more than 900 network protocols and provide simulation, emulation and conformance test to enable interoperability in mobile networks.
The NET-7 monitoring system is a full-featured GSM network analysis platform that houses a wide range of applications specifically designed to meet the most demanding troubleshooting and business analysis needs. It is a non-intrusive monitoring system that consists of a central unit and remote probes that connect to the signaling network.
Tektronix' NetTek field tool, a rugged, portable platform, is the leading product in its class. It fills the gap between expensive, full-compliance testing tools and low-cost instruments designed to perform only one measurement. The instrument's modular architecture supports a range of BTS transmitter measurements for standards including UMTS/WCDMA, cdmaOne (IS-95), CDMA2000, CDMA2000 1x EV-DO, GSM and IS-136. The units purchased by AIS will be configured for applications such as BTS power measurement, interference analysis and antenna/transmission line testing.
Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited or AIS is the largest mobile phone operator in Thailand with more than 11 million customers.
