5/13/2003 - Magma® Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design solutions, announced that WIS Technologies Inc., a leading provider of multimedia hardware and software solutions, has achieved single-pass design closure on a 5-million-gate, 100 MHz, 0.18 -micron video compression chip using Blast FusionTM and Blast RailTM. With Magma's integrated physical and rail design technology, WIS was able to tapeout the design in just 2 weeks with no iterations.
"We had some challenges in implementing the rail design for this chip because of the utilization and die area requirements," said Phil Brennan, vice president of operations at WIS Technologies. "The last thing we wanted to do was have to cobble together a bunch of point tools to try to address these challenges. With Blast Fusion and Blast Rail we were able to perform physical design and power planning, power analysis, voltage drop analysis, voltage-drop-induced delay analysis and analysis of electromigration on rail wires and vias using a single executable. Having all these capabilities in an integrated system saved us a significant amount of time and delivered great results."
