5/5/2003 - Oak Technology, Inc., (Nasdaq: OAKT) a leading provider of embedded solutions for digital imaging and digital home entertainment markets, announced that its IPS/PS3, PostScript® 3TM-compatible language interpreter, has been deployed in Oki Data's recently announced OKI C5300n digital color and OKI B4300 digital monochrome printers. The OKI C5300n's deployment is significant for Oak because the printer features color single pass, or tandem, engine support. These two products follow the launch in Japan of Oki Data's MICROLINE 18NR featuring IPS/PS3. Oki Data is the leading supplier of PostScript printers in Japan and joins a growing list of worldwide printer and multifunction peripheral (MFP) manufacturers in adopting Oak's IPS/PS3 and its powerful Integrated Print System (IPSTM) solutions.
Oki Data is one of today's original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) developing printers that offer high-end productivity, lower cost per page, a compact footprint, network connectivity and PostScript 3 compatibility for the office printing market. Oak's industry-leading IPS/PS3 interpreter, based on Oak's powerful IPS software, provides PostScript 3- compatibility for color and monochrome printers and MFPs. In addition, IPS offers enhanced image processing for superior performance and enables OEMs to develop high-quality peripherals and bring them to market quickly.
"Oki Data is a leader in providing business users with reliable printers designed to perform in demanding environments. Oak Technology is a leader in offering compatibility and performance of PostScript 3-compatible software," said Scott Becker, vice president of marketing, Oki Data Americas, Inc. "Both the new OKI C5300n and B4300 offer unsurpassed reliability advantages. Now, with the selection of Oak as a technology partner, we maintain our ability to successfully meet our performance goals while offering our business users the most affordable color and monochrome printers in their class."
"Oak's IPS/PS3 interpreter provides Oki Data with the highest-quality language compatibility while supporting their single pass color engine design. It also delivers a highly efficient and extensive development platform. These advantages will give Oki Data a distinct edge in this extremely competitive market," said Simon Dolan, senior vice president and general manager, Oak Technology Imaging Group. "Oki Data selected Oak because we lead the industry in deploying page description language software. Their adoption of our PostScript-compatible technology across multiple printer product families further demonstrates Oak's technologies and leadership in the worldwide color printer market."
Oki Data's OKI C5300n digital color printer is compact and affordable using single pass technology. It runs at speeds of 12 pages per minute (ppm) in both color and black and white (after first page out), which is three times faster than competing color lasers. It is offered network-ready and is expandable with duplex printing capability and additional paper capacity. Thanks to the OKI C5300n's straight paper printing path, the printer is capable of printing on a wide variety of media, including transparencies and card stock. Oki Data's proven reliability provides the OKI C5300n printer with a superior duty cycle as well as an unsurpassed 24/7 live customer support in the U.S. and Canada. Oki Data's OKI B4300 digital monochrome printer has been launched along with the OKI C5300n and offers outstanding media-handling capabilities and product features that can be customized and expanded, such as adding a serial interface. It is adaptable to any workgroup environment and operates at a lightning fast 19 PPM after first page out. It also offers parallel and USB connectivity standard with high-quality 1200 X 600 dpi resolution. Paper handling is expandable to 750 sheets and like the C5300n's straight paper printing path, the OKI B4300 is capable of printing on a wide variety of media, including transparencies and card stocks.
