5/5/2003 - IDTTM (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.) (Nasdaq:IDTI - News), a leading communications IC company, and SafeNet, Inc. (Nasdaq:SFNT - News), a leading provider of private and public network security solutions who has set the industry standard for virtual private network (VPN) technology and secure business communications, announced a complete hardware and software VPN gateway reference platform. The security-accelerated platform is based on the SafeNet SafeXcel-1141 and SafeXcel-1741 co-processors and the IDT RC32438 InterpriseTM integrated communications processor. In addition, the offering integrates a full suite of iGateway VPN/firewall security software and support from Intoto, the leader in embedded security software solutions. This complete platform provides a world-class solution that reduces time to market for designers targeting the small and medium enterprise (SME) gateway applications and VPN/firewall appliances. IDT will feature a demonstration of this platform at the 2003 Embedded Systems Conference (booth #802), April 23-25.
"SafeNet has a strong reputation in developing high-performance, security-enabled co-processors, and today's announcement represents a key milestone in the IDT strategy to deliver a breadth of solutions targeting a wide range of security-enabled applications," said Alex Soohoo, strategic marketing manager for the IDT Internetworking Products Division. "Providing Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) performance up to 200 Mbps, SafeNet's co-processors offload the RC32438 processor to provide key required functions of SME and VPN/firewall appliance applications."
"IDT has had a successful history of providing high-performance integrated processors and the IDT RC32438 processor provides a scalable range of security solutions when interfaced to our SafeXcel chips," said Anthony Caputo, chairman and CEO at SafeNet, Inc. "Together with Intoto, we are able to deliver a complete and integrated solution for our customers that addresses the time-to-market requirements for today's VPN gateways and appliances."
SafeNet SafeXcel-1141 and SafeXcel-1741
As part of SafeNet's Momentum Series, the SafeXcel-1141 and SafeXcel-1741 chips are highly sophisticated security co-processors designed for low- to mid-range networking applications such as routers, firewalls, wireless access points, DSL/cable modems and residential gateways. They incorporate security engines for a variety of IPSec, SSL, and WTLS operations while including necessary functions such as DES, Triple DES, AES, MD5, SHA-1, random-number generation and public key computations. The SafeXcel-1141 supports a 50-MHz DMA interface and a 32-bit PCI bus. In PCI mode, the SafeXcel-1141 can perform bus master operations to autonomously process packet commands from a descriptor ring. The SafeXcel-1741 improves performance up to 260 Mbps of IPSec packet throughput for ESP packets (AES and SHA-1). Deployed with a 66-MHz host interface and 66-MHz PCI interface, the SafeXcel-1741 eliminates typical bottlenecks between processors and interfaces.
