5/2/2003 - Proving the strength of its new product portfolio, Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) announced a market share increase in the Japan region that places the programmable logic vendor in the top spot. Revenues grew 5 percent sequentially in the first quarter of 2003, for a total of over 48 million dollars in sales. Japan currently accounts for approximately 25 percent of the company's total revenues.
Japan represents a hotbed of growth for Altera's programmable solutions, as more and more manufacturers of high-end consumer and industrial goods take full advantage of the benefits of programmable logic. Recognizing the time-to-market value and cost efficiencies of programmable technology, system architects are rapidly replacing older, more costly technologies with programmable logic to gain a competitive edge.
"Japanese products are recognized around the world for both their innovation and early market introductions, both of which Altera products enable," said Hiro Higuma, president of Altera Japan. "As system architects in Japan continue to leverage technologies that give their end product a competitive edge, Altera will continue to deliver the right products at the right time."
Altera is celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year and maintains its innovation leadership by being the only FPGA vendor today in full production of both high and low density FPGAs manufactured in the advanced .13-micron all-copper process. Additionally, Altera also recently shipped its 300 millionth MAX® CPLD device, locking in its CPLD leadership with a commanding share of that market.
Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) is the world's pioneer in system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) solutions. Combining programmable logic technology with software tools, intellectual property, and technical services, Altera provides high-value programmable solutions to approximately 14,000 customers worldwide.
