4/30/2003 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW), and Thor Technologies, Inc., announced the availability of an identity and access rights management solution for Global 2000 companies. This solution results from an effort to expand on Open API and Standards initiatives in these areas to deliver market integrated solutions combining Thor's Xellerate[r] secure enterprise provisioning system with the Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) identity management platform. The Sun ONE platform is open and integratable enabling the development and delivery of Java Web services.
A Fully Integrated Identity and Access Rights Management Solution This is the first example of a fully integrated solution on the market to combine the Sun ONE identity management capabilities and enterprise-class provisioning. The combined solution is designed to enable organizations to utilize the Sun ONE identity management platform to grant, manage and revoke user access to applications based upon that platform, or third-party applications, directly from the Sun ONE Directory Server and Sun ONE Identity Server. This solution can provide a single-point of administration, stronger and more consistent security; and significant cost savings through reductions in administrative workload.
"By integrating Xellerate with the Sun ONE Identity Server, our customers now have a powerful, comprehensive solution to help centralize and automate identity management securely - a significant improvement over the complex, fragmented and labor intensive processes companies have deployed in the past," said Stephen Pelletier, vice president Network Identity, Communications and Portal Products for Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Thor's Xellerate provisioning software is highly scalable and flexible. The integration of our products gives enterprises a comprehensive and secure identity management solution that can be quickly and easily deployed with minimal changes to their existing infrastructure."
"Many large enterprises have user identities scattered across multiple systems and applications. By delivering this integrated solution with Sun, we're making ongoing identity management and complex provisioning requirements much easier to address while minimizing security vulnerabilities," said Alberto Yépez, chairman and CEO of Thor Technologies. "Through our combined solution, companies are much better equipped to handle the difficult identity and access rights management issues facing today's extended enterprises."
Both Thor and Sun support the Liberty Alliance project and other emerging standards such as those being worked on by OASIS, including provisioning standards such as, SPML, aimed at standardizing the way user identities are managed across enterprise systems. Sun is a founding member of the Liberty Alliance.
