4/30/2003 - Data Translation®, Inc., has been selected from a field of hundreds of candidates as a winner in the EDN 2002 Innovation of the Year awards competition. Data Translationís winning entry redefines the real-time playing field with high performance analog capability integrated with a software programmable, user accessible, floating-point DSP along with standard software tools. Customers can now harness the power, availability and programmability of an off-the shelf solution so that they can configure products faster without sacrificing quality and still achieve unparalleled real-time results.
Data Translationís entry is the first in a family of data acquisition solutions and was a collaboration with Texas Instruments (TI). Both companies provided the speed and precision needed for real-time measurement in a cost-effective form factor. The combination of TIís floating-point, fast DSP and Data Translationís unprecedented analog accuracy gives customers the flexibility to program any task and still achieve high accuracy data acquisition. Customers can use standard software tools, such as Microsoft® Visual C++®, Microsoft Visual Basic®, and of course TIís Code Composer StudioTM to keep their investments and training costs intact. The DSP data acquisition solution also unleashes unlimited capability to perform real-time computation because of its scalable form factor.
According to Fred Molinari, president, founder and CEO of Data Translation, ďThis award is a great honor because EDNís editors and readers recognized the outstanding merits of our real-time data acquisition solution. The magazine has been at the forefront of covering unique, state-of-the art technical products, so we are privileged to be singled out as a winner for engineering a product that will enable customers to exceed their real-time measurement and data acquisition needs.Ē
Products/technologies qualifying for a 2002 EDN Innovation award must have been introduced and commercially marketed from January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2002. Seventeen product/technology areas were eligible for consideration: Analog ICs; Communications; Computers, Boards, and Buses; Digital ICs; DSPs; EDA, Embedded Development; Microprocessors, Multimedia, Network Processors; Passive Components; Peripherals; Power ICs; Power Sources; Sensor Components; Software; Test & Measurement; plus Innovator of the Year. A panel of EDN's technical editors selected finalist products in each category. Data Translationís real-time, DSP data acquisition solution was selected in the Computers, Boards and Buses category.
Winners of the 2002 Innovation of the Year awards were chosen by EDNís readers through an online ballot on the EDN web site (www.edn.com). Winning products were announced at EDNís Innovation awards ceremony on April 22, 2003 at the Pan Pacific Hotel in San Francisco and will appear in the May 1, 2003 issue of EDN and on www.edn.com.
