Agilent Launches IP Telephony, Data Applications Assessment Services
4/29/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced a new suite of network assessment services for IP telephony and IP data applications. These services enable service providers and enterprise network operators reduce their IT costs, maximize network performance and minimize the risk associated with new service deployment.
Many enterprise customers are under pressure to reduce their IT costs and are turning to integrated IP voice and data services. The challenge is to deploy services quickly and accurately in order to provide high voice quality, solid data integrity and good overall network performance. Network assessments for IP telephony and IP data applications enable customers to gain access to the industry's leading network test tools without the upfront capital expense. Customers also gain access to expertise, which eliminates the need to commit scarce IT employees to weeks of training before the new network services are even evaluated.
Agilent's new suite of services includes LAN and WAN analysis, voice quality assurance, traffic simulation and analog signal analysis. The service suite leverages Agilent's expertise in both voice and data networking as well as Agilent's family of protocol analyzers, voice quality products and signal analysis tools to help customers deploy their network services quickly.
Steps that can be included in this suite of services include the following:
- Customer Network Survey: A preliminary survey is conducted to discuss needs such as networking issues and goals and gathering a network topology map. A statement of work is then prepared with details about each phase of the network assessment process.
- Benchmark Assessment: Current voice and data traffic mix is evaluated to locate trouble spots and offer an objective view on existing network service performance. Assessing capacity and auditing key elements critical to network transition helps customers plan an economical and quality solution. Users also gain an understanding of current quality, which is used as the baseline for new voice or data service.
- Readiness and Proof of Concept Verification: Pre-deployment performance modeling is critical to proof of concept for the new network service. Hence, the network's performance is modeled by simulating voice and data traffic to identify problems.
- Live Deployment Performance Verification: Once the new network services go live, quality of service and performance is re-assessed to determine whether to troubleshoot any issues. Often network users don't report problems for days, so it is key to verify performance and resolve any routing or equipment issues before it disrupts the business. Maintenance-Optimizing/Troubleshooting: The performance of the network is audited on a regular basis in order to recommend ways to optimize the network based on changing needs.
- Data Analysis, Report-out and Presentation: Upon completion of the network assessment services, the data is analyzed and a report is prepared to document all measurements completed on the network, and recommendations are reviewed with the customer team.
"Network assessments for IP telephony and IP data applications reduce problems with deployment and wasted investment through proof-of-concept testing and live performance verification," said Lynne Camp, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Communications Test Solutions Division. "We offer experience and expertise in both voice and data communications. We provide customers with an objective view of their network performance and empower our customers to meet their objectives, no matter which equipment vendor, service provider or IT consultants they hire."
