4/28/2003 - Express Logic, Inc., the technology leader in embedded real-time operating systems, announced ThreadX support for Sharp’s new BlueStreakTM Software Library for all MCU and SoC components in the BlueStreak family. Sharp and Express Logic ThreadX customers now have a centralized Internet location to access and download critical software drivers and documentation needed for application designs. The tools help to reduce time to market and lower development costs, and are available via Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas’ Web site.
The Camas, Wash., microelectronic division has been designated by Sharp corporation as the worldwide development center for MCUs and SoCs, based on the industry standard ARMTM cores. The launch of this centralized software library is part of Sharp’s BlueStreak initiative.
Available now on Sharp Microelectronics’ Web site, the Software Library provides designers an expansive array of interoperable software that can be implemented into designs. It includes a full spectrum of support tools and drivers created by Sharp. It also provides a centralized location for designers to access links to software and resource downloads for popular third-party developers, such as ARM, Express Logic, and Green Hills Software. Combined, the site provides the majority of the resources required by engineers to integrate Sharp’s MCUs/SoCs onto their designs.
“We are very pleased to be part of Sharp’s BlueStreak software library for their powerful set of 16/32- and 32-bit general purpose MCUs and SoCs,” says William E. Lamie, Express Logic’s president. “The BlueStreak software library support for ThreadX will help ThreadX developers using Sharp’s MCUs and SoCs greatly reduce their time to market!”
Sharp estimates that designers can reduce the number of man months spent on development by redirecting the time they spend on building and implementing support tools. This development resource is targeted at designers using Sharp’s BlueStreak line of 16/32- and 32-bit general purpose MCUs and SoCs, currently available by Sharp in mass production quantities.
Library Reflects Sharp’s Strong Partnership with Express Logic
As a result of Sharp’s partnership network, the Software Library allows engineers to access software solutions for Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS, Flash, Ethernet, 802.11, evaluation boards, debuggers, compilers and assemblers to integrate into their applications, all from a centralized resource. Specific third-party software solutions that can be accessed from Sharp’s Software Library include:
Other resources available include Sharp’s documentation library, reference designs, and links to graphics support for Swell Software’s PegX and Segger Embedded Software Solutions.
To download software that can be used with each of Sharp’s MCU and SoC components, including the general-purpose 16/32-bit ARM 7TM and the 32-bit ARM9TM, customers can visit the Sharp BlueStreak Library at: http://able.sharpsma.com.
