Oak's Digital TV Decoder, Controller Integrated into Set-Top-Boxes

4/28/2003 - Oak Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: OAKT), a leading provider of embedded solutions for the digital home entertainment and digital imaging markets, announced that its TL851 Universal Digital TV Decoder and TL811 PVR/STB Controller have been integrated into Funai's latest suite of over-the-air set-top-boxes (STBs), which feature both Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) reception and provide component output for high-definition-ready TVs and composite signal output. An advanced Graphical User Interface (GUI) provides a first-class ease-of-use TV experience for the rapidly growing digital TV market.

"As advanced digital TV products continue to reach the broad consumer market, ease-of-use and compelling graphics become the increasingly important competitive differentiators," said Matsuo Masahiro, Manager of High Definition TV Projects at Funai. "Oak's TL851 Universal Digital Decoder and TL811 PVR/STB Controller enabled us to deliver a product that gives our customers both easy-to-use functions and a compelling and engaging Digital TV experience."

The Oak TL851 graphics engine supports high-quality, high-definition flicker-reduced 32 bit OSD and accelerated graphics, enabling Funai to deliver STBs with a rich, crisp and easy-to-use GUI.

The TL811 reduces system cost by integrating key external components and providing the core foundation for future product roadmaps with worldwide conditional access capabilities and options enabling families of products with differentiated features.

"After working together in Japan, we are pleased to continue our work with Funai on another important program, which will bring Funai products with Oak inside to the US market. Oak's TL851 and TL811 ICs, software, and platform are based on a global, scalable architecture that enables Funai and other leading consumer OEMs to deliver multiple leading-edge products from a common platform," said Jon Castor, senior vice president and general manager of Oak's TeraLogic Group.
