4/28/2003 - I-Logix, a leading provider of embedded software development solutions, announced the immediate commercial availability of iNotion, its product lifecycle management (PLM) portal for software. The iNotion 2.0 platform adds support for complementary industry tools and provides personalization capabilities to allow product teams—including marketing, systems and software engineering, test and quality assurance, and support—to easily manage the volumes of material generated during a project. iNotion is especially valuable for project teams that must meet rigorous compliance mandates, such as DO-178B, ISO and CMM because it provides controlled access to information, links related information, and establishes auditable workflows to manage the entire software lifecycle.
iNotion has been in use for the past year at Avionyx, a provider of full lifecycle embedded software engineering services for commercial avionics systems. "We spent a significant amount of time evaluating several tools as well as in-house development to help us manage our processes," said Larry Allgood, Avionyx’ president. "In the end, we concluded that it would cost us $250,000 to develop the tools in-house and the functionality would not have been close to what iNotion provided out-of-the-box for a fraction of the cost. Knowing that our process is airtight and standards compliant allows us to focus our resources on the actual product design."
With iNotion, companies can set up their complete development infrastructure by defining each team member, their role on the project, their privileges to access project information, and their subscription and notification rules for product administration. With this infrastructure, iNotion inherently provides a consistent web-based multi-site portal to both product management services and product lifecycle artifacts.
New features include:
Bi-directional support for MS Project: Enables instantaneous project updates between management and the development team. At any time, product managers are able to determine exactly the progress of tasks assigned to product team members, saving countless hours finding this information and ensuring that the project plan accurately reflects the status of the project.
Unified change management: For any SCC compliant configuration management tool, iNotion links tasks to the associated development artifacts. This link gives bidirectional traceability between the tasks that are assigned to product team members and the product artifacts that change as a result of their efforts.
Personalization: "My iNotion" task bar allows developers to quickly see only the components of the project for which they are responsible, allowing them to focus on their piece of the larger puzzle.
"I-Logix is uniquely positioned to bring the evolving Product Lifecycle Management principles to the embedded software development market, which is challenged to manage large, distributed projects within increasingly strict guidelines, said Chris Lanfear embedded software group manager for Venture Development Corp. "Every company that develops embedded software solutions will want to put iNotion on its short-list of solutions to review. iNotion's tightly integrated management architecture should dramatically impact how development teams interact on projects and will streamline the entire process—improving organizational productivity and products' time to market. Early customer feedback validates the return on investment achieved through use of such a tightly integrated portal.
iNotion is available now by contacting email@example.com. Pricing is based on volume and is offered as a fixed seat license or on a per-seat, per-month subscription service.
