Metrowerks Supports ColdFire Devices with New Release of CodeWarrior

4/25/2003 - As customers require more cost-effective, powerful development systems for embedded systems and the importance for industrial control applications increases, companies are searching for solutions that are flexible, support multiple architectures and can be easily networked. Metrowerks announced the release of CodeWarrior(tm) Development Studio for ColdFire (Architectures, Version 4.0, which is designed to support all ColdFire architectures from Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT).

The newest version of CodeWarrior Development Studio for ColdFire Architectures is designed to support the Motorola MCF5282, the first 32-bit microcontroller (MCU) that provides on-chip Ethernet and Controller Area Network (CAN) networking interfaces plus 512K of embedded flash memory. The MCF5282 can be used in embedded products ranging from security systems, home networking, food service equipment, and industrial control networks such as CAN gateways and routers. CodeWarrior Development Studio for ColdFire Architectures is designed to support a number of commercially available real time operating systems (RTOS) and networking protocol stacks, to allow customers to easily incorporate these capabilities into their products.

Metrowerks and Motorola worked closely with several commercially available RTOS suppliers to integrate support and kernel awareness into CodeWarrior Development Studio for ColdFire Architectures. The open architecture of CodeWarrior is engineered to easily incorporate support for new Background Debug Interface adapters and RTOS products.

"Metrowerks strives to deliver products that will make a difference in the customer's development cycle," said David Clifton, vice president of marketing for Metrowerks. "CodeWarrior Development Studio is part of our ongoing strategy to provide a competitive solution ideal for the embedded market."

"As a long-time user of CodeWarrior products, I know first hand how critical the Metrowerks tools are for helping our developers running immediately and working productively," said David Moore, director of development, Micro Digital, Inc. "Metrowerks refined CodeWarrior Development Studio for ColdFire Architectures, Version 4.0, based on feedback from customers, like myself, which further demonstrates their high regard and commitment to users."
