4/25/2003 - Fujitsu Consulting, the worldwide consulting arm of the Fujitsu Group, is to deliver the first phase of a strategic enterprise integration programme and portal solution for Reed, the recruitment and human resources consultancy group.
The contract follows a decision by Reed to devolve its various business divisions and implement an IT infrastructure that would support the new business model, whilst providing a single view of the business for its employees across many applications via a single login.
The preliminary phase consisted of a consulting assignment to develop a roadmap for a systems development strategy that has the ability to evolve and exploit the 'Connected World' realities of the developing technology environment of the early 21st century and yet preserves and exploits Reed's historical investment in core business applications. Fujitsu designed the roadmap as a series of distinct phases, giving Reed the flexibility to select different suppliers if desired. Fujitsu was Reed's partner of choice when it came to implementing the changes. Said Edward Hickman, a Director of Reed, "We selected the Fujitsu team because they demonstrated a sound understanding of our business strategy and proposed an innovative architecture and implementation approach to meet our requirements".
Phase one involves enhancing and integrating existing recruitment and support systems. Vicki Philips, client manager at Fujitsu Consulting added, "The portal solution will preserve Reed's investment in existing systems. The single-view interface for all Reed's business systems will allow employees to exploit data in easier-to-manage applications and enable them to work more efficiently."
Philips continued, "These changes are designed to increase revenue, limit costs and provide new and enhanced services, including the development of workflow management applications that will allow Reed to maximise efficiency and track against targets."
Fujitsu has also been contracted to deliver an integrated payroll and human resource system using Oracle HRMS. The initial phase of this implementation will involve migration of data to the new Oracle platform to deliver an efficient and user- friendly payroll system. It will also provide Reed employees with self-service functionality to view and manage all their personnel details. Further phases will provide training, recruitment, self-service and online CV management.
