Advantech Releases Two New 2.5 Intel Xscale PXA-255 RISC Platforms

4/25/2003 - Advantech Co. Ltd., delivering hardware and software solutions that empower the e-world, is now offering two new 2.5" RISC platforms that help customers target low power/space critical applications better. These platforms expand Advantech's existing 3.5" RISC platform product line, offering customers more power and expansion flexibility on a super small 2.5” footprint. Although a small form factor, these platforms offer a complete list of functions and features, based on the Intel Xscale (PCM-7220) and Samsung ARM9 (PCM-7320) processors respectively.

For RISC platform expansion, Advantech introduces our AMI-120 module product line. The AMI-120 expansion interface provides our newest RISC platforms with fast and easy modular function expansion, with off-the-shelf orcustomized (by Advantech, customer or third party) modules available. The AMI-120 allows customers to quickly and easily provide functions for RISC vertical market application needs. Also, with RISC platforms being applied to a wider range of applications that operate in harsh and more demanding conditions, Advantech offersour Phoenix Operation extended temperature product testing to ensure customers get the most reliable platforms for their application needs.

High Performance and Value
The PCM-7220 is a high performance 2.5" Biscuit SBC with Intel’s RISC Xscale PXA-250 processor and Windows CE.NET or Embedded Linux on a 78 x 104 mm (3” x 4”) compact form factor. The PCM-7320 platform is a more cost effective application ready board level solution integrating Samsung's ARM9 S3C2410 SOC (System On Chip) on a 78 x 104 mm (3” x 4”) compact form factor. Both platforms are designed to offer customers a fast time to market and flexible reference platform that is fully customizable. All functionalityhas beenfully certified and can be leveraged for customized needs for different hardware configurations and system optimization based on the customer’s request.

Customization with RISC Expansion by Module
The New AMI-120 interface is just like a PC/104 interface is to an x86 platform in concept, but proprietary for Advantech ARM architecture. Defined by Advantech, the AMI-120 bus interface is intended to provide a unified interface to expand the functionality of an existing ARM base platform in a dependable, easy, low cost and fast way. Besides offering a full line of off-the-shelf AMI solution modules that connect to the main computing board through the AMI-120 bus interface, it is also possible to create customized versions of AMI modules based on desired features and the applied ARM computing platform. A customized AMI module can also have more than one function on a module, for example, a customer can add an extra USB and COM port on a single module. These modules can be designed by Advantech, our customers, or by third party companies wishing to create solutions using our existing RISC platform products.
