4/23/2003 - MPI Software Technology, Inc., a leading provider of high performance middleware products and related services, has announced that MPI/Pro, our MPI 1.2 product, will support the AMD OpteronTM processor with later support planned for ChaMPIon/ProTM, our MPI 2.1 product, as well as VSI/Pro®, our high-performance math library based on the VSIPL standard, including industry leading performance FFTs and dense linear algebra.
MPI/Pro is MPI Software Technology Inc.’s (MSTI) commercial grade version of the Message Passing Interface (MPI) and is fully compliant with version 1.2 of the MPI standard, as set forth by the MPI Forum. MPI defines how data is transferred among multiple processors all working in parallel on related programs for applications such as: signal and image processing, data reorganization, target recognition, SAR; medical imaging, and other military-aerospace signal and imaging applications (e.g., radar, sonar). MPI is also widely used for CFD, weather modeling, financial applications, and seismic exploration.
ChaMPIon/Pro is the first commercial MPI-2.1 version available for Linux. ChaMPIon/Pro is a robust, scalable, high-performance MPI-2.1 Implementation from MPI Software Technology, Inc. This implementation is to retain for the application the maximum amount of scalability possible, while also balancing performance criteria and resource utilization.
“64-bit AMD Opteron processor-based MPI/Pro, ChaMPIon/Pro, and VSI/Pro for AMD Opteron processor and Linux means that clusters with professional grade environments and supercomputing power are now available, particularly new offerings by RackSaver, Inc.,“ said Dr. Anthony Skjellum, CTO of MPI Software Technology.
MPI/Pro has many features that other MPI implementations for Linux do not have. These include: Thread safety, Independent message progress (complies fully with the MPI Progress Rule), Overlapping of computation and communication, Optimized persistent mode of communication, Optimized derived data types, MPI/Pro handles long-running, complex programs reliably, Efficient multi-device architecture, Broad Conformance & Performance Testing, Support for several Fortran compilers, and OpenMP compatibility, plus many other features.
ChaMPIon/Pro has all of these features plus: High-Performance Parallel I/O support, Dynamic Process Management (DPM), 1-sided (put/get) communication API, Extended Collective Operations, "Miscellaneous Chapter" MPI-2.1 Support, Support for forthcoming PERUSE performance API, all tested against industry leading compliance and performance suites.
“AMD recognizes the value of scalable, commercial-grade MPI middleware and math libraries offered by MSTI as key AMD Opteron processor enablers,” said Rich Heye, vice president and general manager of AMD’s Microprocessor Business Unit. “AMD64 technology offers programmers the increased performance and reliability to optimize applications such as MPI /Pro.”
