4/22/2003 - As it celebrates its 20th anniversary and continues its command of the CPLD market, Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) announced that its MAX® CPLDs have achieved $3 billion in cumulative sales with the delivery of the 300 millionth device to Alcatel. Offering both low-cost and high-performance CPLD solutions, Altera's MAX families have outsold all competing architectures since the family was introduced in 1988.
"MAX CPLDs have been used by Alcatel for more than 10 years because they consistently meet our requirements for ease-of-use, performance and cost-effectiveness," said Burt Rabinowitz, vice president, sourcing, for Alcatel's North American operations. "The 300 millionth MAX CPLD that we received continues a long tradition of reliable contributions by Altera to our products' success."
Featuring a wide range of packages, densities, and speed grade options, Altera's MAX devices have become the defacto industry-standard CPLD solution for the past 14 years. Adopted by more than 25,000 customers worldwide, Altera's MAX devices provide designers with a non-volatile, instant-on programmable solution for applications targeting consumer, communications, industrial, automotive, computing, and storage markets.
"Customers prefer MAX CPLDs over competing products because they deliver low-cost, easy-to-use solutions for practical engineering challenges," said George Papa, senior vice president of global sales at Altera. "When designers choose MAX devices, they know they are taking a proven path for their product development."
