Momentum Computer Rolls Out Pentium M-based cPCI Embedded Computer

4/21/2003 - Momentum Computer announced the introduction of their Cheetah-A single-board CompactPCI computer configured for the Intel® Pentium® M processor, operating at 1.10 or 1.60 GHz. Coupled with the Intel Pentium M processor, the Cheetah-A incorporates the Intel® E7501 chipset with memory controller to provide an optimized combination of high performance, I/O bandwidth and low power requirements that are well suited for communications and other form-factor constrained environments.

The Cheetah-A system features two 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports that are routed to the backplane J3 connector as PICMG 2.16 nodes, while two Intelligent Platform Management Bus (IPMB) interfaces on the backplane J1 connector ensure PICMG compliance. The hot swappable board auto-senses whether to operate as Compact PCI system board or non-system board as required. A wide range of I/O and storage interfaces through the front panel as well as the backplane J3 connector ensure maximum flexibility. A 64-bit 66/33 MHz PMC site and 32-bit 33 MHz backplane J5 PCI interface enable further I/O expansion. The Intel E7501 chipset supports a 400 MHz processor bus and up to 2 Gbytes of dual-channel 200 MHz DDR SDRAM with ECC. The Cheetah-A computers work with Microsoft® Windows 2000 and XP as well as Linux operating systems.

“Momentum’s new Cheetah board, based on the Intel Pentium M processor, was designed to support the needs of communications and other space-constrained applications.” said Joe Jensen, general manager, Embedded Intel Architecture Division. “By incorporating this new processor and chipset combination into their design, Momentum provides its customers with the high performance, low power solution that their communications applications demand.”

“With the release of the Pentium M processor, Intel has set a new standard for performance with low power consumption that gives us greater flexibility to address our customer requirements. Our goal at Momentum is to match customers’ specific applications to the best platform, using the latest technology and the best team of engineers and designers in the embedded computer business. This enables us to minimize customization requirements and offer leading-edge products with optimized costs and rapid time to market,” stated Momentum’s president, Harry White.

Cheetah-A Systems are available now from stock for small quantities and delivery times of six to eight weeks for production quantities. Prices start at less than $3000 with volume discounts available.
