4/18/2003 - IDT (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, announced that Senao International, a Taiwan-based innovator of last-mile communications systems, has selected the IDT RC32438 InterpriseTM integrated communications processor to power its new dual-band wireless access points (WAP) and wireless routers designed for 802.11a-, 802.11b- and 802.11g-based networks.
Integration of a high-performance double-data rate (DDR) DRAM memory controller and a PCI interface optimized for data throughput made the RC32438 processor Senao’s choice to meet the high-bandwidth demands of their dual-band WAPs and wireless routers. On-chip dual Ethernet interfaces provided Senao with architectural flexibility and the ability to employ significant design re-use for their wireless router that requires both PCI-based wireless connectivity as well as support for Ethernet-based wired LAN devices. Additionally, the high-performance CPU core at the heart of the RC32438 processor offers Senao significant processing power to enable adaptation of their system as additional wireless standards emerge and empower the design teams to add additional features and services such as security firewalls.
In addition to the adoption of the IDT InterpriseTM RC32438 processor, Senao leveraged the full suite of IDT development tools including the 79EB438 board, the IDT LinuxTM software package and the Wind River System® VxWorks®.
“Our dual-band wireless solutions depend upon optimal PCI and Ethernet throughput and simple connectivity to peripheral devices and subsystems such as switch controllers and 802.11 wireless cards,” said Alex Dee, vice president of sales and marketing, Senao. “The IDT RC32438 integrated communications processor delivers the performance and connectivity required to meet the needs of our WAP and wireless router solutions. Equally as important, the comprehensive development tools and local technical support from IDT enabled us to optimize the RC32438 processor for our system needs on a very tight time-to-market schedule.”
“The performance demands of dual-band wireless LAN equipment and other products based on emerging technology standards require highly integrated, high-performance microprocessor solutions, such as the widely adopted IDT InterpriseTM family of integrated communications processor solutions,” said Barry Yi, Taiwan country manager for IDT. “Senao’s innovative wireless solutions place a premium on memory bandwidth and PCI throughput while demanding a high level of integration to allow processor subsystem re-use across a wide range of wireless LAN equipment. Senao’s selection of our RC32438 processor demonstrates the device’s ability to serve the needs of leading-edge wireless networking platforms and other innovative next-generation solutions.”
