4/17/2003 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. and NeuStar, Inc. announced an alliance to provide Chief Information Officers with the infrastructure necessary to deliver federated identity services. Leveraging NeuStar's NeuLiberty identity management services and the Sun ONE Identity Server, companies can interoperate and exchange digital credentials with other Liberty-compliant businesses via the Web, without having to build multiple peer-to-peer relationships. The Liberty Alliance is establishing an open standard for federated network identity for all networked devices.
Together, Sun and NeuStar leverage the respective strengths of their Liberty-compliant products, and the Liberty Alliance standard, to provide customers with a single solution for all of their network identity needs. The NeuLiberty suite provides shared directory, discovery and clearinghouse functions, enabling identity providers and service providers to identify one another on the Web and exchange sensitive transaction data in a secure manner. The Sun ONE Identity Server, a Liberty-compliant platform, is a key component of NeuLiberty's suite of identity management services.
"NeuStar is promoting the adoption and deployment of open identity solutions by addressing the complex business and trust relationships in a federated identity services world," said Stephen Pelletier, vice president of Network Identity, Communications and Portal Products, Sun Microsystems, Inc. "One of the industry's first Liberty-enabled solutions, the Sun ONE Identity Server 6.0 is both Liberty-enabled and SAML-enabled. And we are very excited to be working with NeuStar who is driving the adoption of these open, interoperable standards."
As a trusted, neutral third party provider of crucial Internet and telecommunications registry infrastructure, NeuStar is uniquely qualified to develop and manage scalable clearinghouse services. The NeuStar registry infrastructure, employing Sun ONE technology, is a highly available, distributed and flexible platform. Sun is a founding member of the Liberty Alliance and recognizes that shared discovery and directory services operated by a neutral third party are required to deliver emerging identity-enabled applications and accelerate the adoption of Liberty-compliant solutions.
"We are excited to be working with Sun, the leader in identity management solutions, to promote rapid adoption of Liberty technology," said Mark Foster, Senior Vice President, NeuStar, Inc. "By combining NeuStar's expertise in providing clearinghouse services with a federated identity model, the Sun-NeuStar alliance will help accelerate the use of the Internet for future commerce."
Sun is a leader in delivering solutions for federated network identity, establishing a secure framework for customers to create new revenue opportunities through enhanced affinity relationships with business partners and customers. The Sun ONE Identity Server 6.0 is one of the industry's first enterprise-class Liberty-enabled products and Sun recently announced the Sun Solution for Network Identity, a pre-configured federated network identity solution specifically designed to help customers install their core identity management infrastructure quickly and efficiently. Sun is also a founding member of the Liberty Alliance, the Sun ONE Directory Server is one of the most successful LDAP directory solutions with over 1 Billion licenses and growing, and more than 250 million Java technology-based smart cards have been deployed worldwide.
Prospective customers can access the NeuLiberty service by registering with NeuStar and purchasing the Liberty-enabled Sun ONE Identity Server directly from Sun.
