4/16/2003 - Primagraphics, the command & control, video and graphics specialist, has launched its commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) Hawkeye single slot, VME, radar acquisition and scan-converter solution.
The 6U VME module offers the ultimate in high performance integrated radar scan-converter solutions for VME and comprises a main board and two PMC cards providing scan conversion and radar acquisition capability in a single slot. Radar video may also be received over a network connection (via Primagraphics' Radar Video Processor (RVP)) utilising the built-in 10/100 Base-T network.
The low power, ruggedised Hawkeye card is able to receive and digitise radar video from a wide range of supported radar types including ACP/ARP, RADDS and ASDE-3 and supports multiple scan conversion windows on a single high resolution (up to 1600 x 1200) display.
Radar scan conversion is performed using the White-Powell algorithm, combining the best features of both forward and reverse scan conversion. There are no holes or spokes in the displayed image, even when zooming-in at long range. All single point targets are displayed.
Graphics from any external DVI graphics card are received and mixed with the radar video to support a multi-layer underlay and overlay graphics display - specially designed to support the needs of command & control, air traffic and vessel traffic display systems.
Three separate PowerPC chips combine to provide a high performance internal data path from the receipt of the radar video through to the display. All radar transfers are internal to the card thereby eliminating bottlenecks of the backplane and front panel interconnects.
An application programming interface (API) is presented using Primagraphics' established PARIS programming interface. PARIS takes full responsibility for integrating the control of the scan-converter into a C of C++ application program, and integration with X-Windows or MS-Windows is straightforward, allowing radar-in-a-window applications to be built.
