Tektronix, Rohde & Schwarz, Anritsu Joins NI Driver Developer Program

4/16/2003 - National Instruments announced that leading instrument vendors including Tektronix, Rohde & Schwarz and Anritsu have joined its new Instrument Driver Developer Program. This program is a cooperative effort to create standard LabVIEW driver software, ensuring that customers can quickly integrate LabVIEW graphical development software with a wide variety of instruments using little or no programming.

In response to customer demand for solid connectivity between LabVIEW and these vendors' instruments, NI works with Instrument Driver Developer Program members to create and certify LabVIEW instrument drivers that comply with requirements and recommendations for architecture, programming style, error handling, front panels, block diagrams, icons and online help. Through this program, instrument vendors can easily deliver seamless integration with industry-standard software to their existing and potential customers.

"By working with NI to provide our customers easy integration with LabVIEW, we expand the capabilities of our oscilloscopes," said Bill Leineweber, product marketing manager for Tektronix, an NI Instrument Driver Developer Program member. "Combining the advanced analysis and presentation capabilities of LabVIEW with the high-precision measurement capabilities of our oscilloscopes enables engineers to quickly and efficiently solve their application challenges."

Instrument Driver Developer Program members can store and promote their instrument drivers on the Instrument Driver Network, the industry's largest source for instrument drivers at ni.com/idnet. Here, engineers can choose from more than 1,400 certified instrument drivers from 150 manufacturers to easily integrate their instruments with LabVIEW. NI maintains program members' instrument drivers for at least one year and provides comprehensive technical support for all customers downloading instrument drivers.

The program delivers a wide variety of other technical and marketing benefits for its members, including download statistics, instrument driver maintenance, software and hardware discounts and more. Tektronix, Rohde & Schwarz, Anritsu and other leading instrument vendors have joined the NI Instrument Driver Developer Program to increase software support, enhance the performance of their products and provide standard, easy-to-use and flexible driver software for their instruments.

"As part of our commitment to promoting open standards and interoperability, the Instrument Driver Developer Program ensures that engineers can easily create tightly integrated measurement and automation systems," said Matt Smith, NI LabVIEW product manager. "With the wide spectrum of LabVIEW instrument drivers that result from this program, LabVIEW users more easily integrate emerging instruments into their systems while maintaining compatibility across current and future technologies."
