Actuate, Sun Break Record with Support for 24,000 Concurrent Users

4/16/2003 - Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: ACTU), and Sun Microsystems, Inc., revealed a record-breaking business intelligence performance result. The tests running the Actuate iServer on a Sun Fire V880 system with eight 900 MHz UltraSPARC III CPUs and 64 GB memory achieved a peak performance load of 24,000 concurrent users, setting new scalability watermarks for the Business Intelligence industry. Surpassing four to ten times the number of concurrent users supported by alternative competitive platforms, these performance tests conducted by Sun and Actuate utilize a best-in-class, open architecture approach, ensuring customers maximum choice in their technology investment.

The performance tests showed that 24,000 concurrent active users were served 788.2 report viewing requests a second, which equals 68 million viewing requests a day, at 84 percent efficiency across eight nodes and 64 CPUs running on the open and scalable Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE). In tests of simultaneous viewing and batch report generation 11,000 concurrent active users submitting 362.22 URLs a second generating 64 pages a second were supported. This translates to 31.3 million viewing requests a day while generating 5.5 million pages a day. In batch generation tests a standalone node of 8 900MHz CPUs processed 209.64 pages a second at 100 percent utilization providing further evidence of scalability across CPUs. Express content generation and viewing also demonstrated the same perfect scalability with 18.68 reports a second for 500 active users.
