Adaptec's iSCSI Products to be Compatible with Microsoft's iSCSI

4/15/2003 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), the global leader in IP storage networking, announced its IP Storage Networking products will support Microsoft Corp.'s iSCSI architecture for Windows when it is released in June, ensuring full compatibility of Adaptec's iSCSI products with Microsoft's iSCSI operating systems for server and desktop environments.

Microsoft and Adaptec will also demonstrate iSCSI solutions at Storage Networking World this week in Phoenix, Arizona.

"We are continuing our efforts with Microsoft to make it easy for OEMs, resellers and ultimately IT managers to deploy IP storage networking solutions," said Ram Jayam, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Storage Networking Group. "Microsoft's leadership in deploying iSCSI support in their operating environments is an important milestone in the broad adoption of IP storage networking, especially for mid-market customers and enterprise workgroups."

"IP storage networking brings enterprise-class capabilities to a broader spectrum of customers, and we're pleased to see industry leaders, such as Adaptec, taking advantage of Microsoft's iSCSI framework," said Zane Adam, director of product marketing for the Enterprise Storage Division at Microsoft. "We're also pleased to once again be working with Adaptec to demonstrate the benefits of IP storage networking at SNW."

The Adaptec iSCSI Adapter 7211C and 7211F deliver best-in-class connection speed, price-performance, interoperability and operating system support to reduce the cost of implementing storage area networks for e-mail, database, disaster recovery, LAN-free backup, consolidation and other storage applications. The Adaptec iSCSI host bus adapters support copper (7211C) and fiber (7211F) media, and are designed to meet the requirements of the Microsoft Designed for Windows Logo Program.

Microsoft's iSCSI download will include support for Internet Storage Name Service (iSNS) for both server and client, management via Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), and an architecture that aggregates the different hardware initiators into a common framework.

The Microsoft iSCSI framework will enable management of IP Storage Networks via Windows Management Instrumentation, providing a standard interface for storage area networking software vendors to develop and deploy iSCSI SAN management solutions. In addition, it allows adapters from multiple vendors to be managed simultaneously and seamlessly, ensuring complete interoperability, investment protection and easy management for IT managers.
